Armed men have killed at least 33 people in an attack on a village in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a region already struggling with an Ebola outbreak.

Eastern Congo has suffered decades of violence by armed groups competing for land and mineral wealth. The insecurity has repeatedly hampered efforts to contain Ebola, as health teams cannot safely reach affected communities.

A British doctor who caught Ebola while working on the response has been flown home to an isolation unit in London.
